Have Yourself a Spooky Christmas?

Ghost stories and Christmas seems like an odd mix if we don’t fully appreciate the Incarnation for the supernatural event that it was. The telling of ghost stories at Christmas time is actually an age-old tradition that is sadly all but gone. It still lives, albeit on life support, on the BBC. A simple googling of the subject will turn up dozens of examples.

Of course the gran daddy of them all is Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This classic hasn’t been equaled in written form but, as cinema, I think it takes second place to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Burton’s superbly surreal blending of Halloween and Christmas has yet to grow old for me.

The Twilight Zone had a couple of haunting Christmas tales back in the day. Unfortunately, they’re still copy write protected so I couldn’t find anything more than clips from the originals. I did however find the full and updated version of one such episode performed by the Nashville Community College players…
