Another week at NaNoWriMo and another five thousand-ish word count to show for it. I’m not complaining, mind you. It’s still a higher weekly word count than I usually manage. Still, I don’t think this speed writing is for me. I’m too old a dog for this new trick of edit-free writing.
I like the rolling edits I perform, slowly molding a single draft into a finished product. Slow as I am at present, I’m a whole lot faster than when I started writing. My first book, The House of War, took me nearly three years to write. One Last Flight, my second one took me only nine months. Maybe I can polish off the next one in three.
I’m going to finish this year’s NaNoWriMo just to see how much I can produce in a month with a suppressed inner editor. I’ll revisit the manuscript in the New Year and make note of how many words I cut from it.
Till Next time,
Keep On Writing, Y’all!
